Sally Hatton – Soprano
Having started singing during her mid 20s, Sally has continued her classical training and has now been performing as a soloist for 16 years taking on a variety of singing roles in many Operettas and Operas and has taken many leading roles in Musical Theatre productions.
Sally is one half of a classical duo called Wedding Belles who regularly sing at weddings in and around the South East. She is also a regular soloist at local Summer Proms events and is in great demand as a concert and oratorio soloist. She has sung in auspicious venues such as the London Palladium down to her most unusual, a Railway shed full of steam trains.
Elizabeth Powell – Soprano
After being introduced to Gilbert & Sullivan at an early age, Elizabeth started her love of singing. She was encouraged to have vocal training and ultimately moved into the world of Opera and Oratorio.
Having sung Musetta (La Boheme), Michaela (Carmen), Pamina (The Magic Flute) and Fenena (Nabucco) and both the Verdi and Mozart Requiem, she now thoroughly enjoys singing as a concert performer and is delighted to have become a member of Serendipity.
Hilary Jane Andrews – Mezzo Soprano
Hilary is a regular performer of both classical and lighter repertoire on the concert platform, ranging from open air summer music extravaganza to oratorio performances including Verdis Requiem, Handels Messiah and Mozarts C Minor Mass.
In addition to more formal performances, Hilary is no stranger to the stage, and has performed numerous operatic roles in the South East. Highlights include the title role in Bizets Carmen, Dorabella (Cosi fan Tutte), Mercedes (Carmen), Marcellina (Marriage of Figaro) and, latterly, Third Medium in Vaughan Williams rarely performed Poisoned Kiss.
Claire Padbury – Mezzo Soprano
An early enthusiasm for singing as a child led Claire to join a local operatic society and then to engage in classical training to pursue her passion for music.
A soloist in productions ranging from operetta and opera through to rock opera, Claire combines a rich, mellow tone with a comic touch for character parts and comic songs, performing with a number of local companies and in concert in venues as diverse as theatres, stately homes, Trafalgar Square and a pirate ship!
Claire is the other half of Wedding Belles who have had the privilege of helping over 70 couples celebrate their special day.
Kevin Wood – Tenor
Kevin has sung in choirs and as an occasional soloist for many years, starting out as a treble in productions of Tom Sawyer and Oliver at school. As a tenor, he has performed a variety of musical styles, from baroque to barbershop and in recent years has enjoyed the challenge of performing on stage in operetta and musical theatre.
His favourite roles have been in the open air as Motel the Tailor in Fiddler on the Roof with the East Surrey Operatic Society at Polesden Lacey and as a bounder in the Barnstormers production of The Scarlet Pimpernel at the Minack Theatre, Cornwall.
When not performing on stage, he is still in demand as a competent tenor and regularly sings with local chamber choirs and choral societies.
Nick Lucas – Tenor
Originally from Sunderland, Nick has always sung and started his musical career as a chorister at the tender age of 9 before treading the boards with Sunderland Amateur Operatic Society.
Now settled in The South, as a Tenor Nick has been fortunate to have played a great variety of roles in Surrey, Sussex and Kent ranging from the usual dashing tenor roles in productions as diverse as Follies, Desert Song and West Side Story to the world of opera and operetta including Die Fledermaus, Merry Widow and The Bartered Bride. His range also covers comic idiots like Oscar (Sweet Charity) and Rick (A Slice of Saturday Night) to mean and moody roles such as The Russian (Chess), Macheath (Beggars Opera), Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde (Jekyll & Hyde), and Noah (Children of Eden), but the most fun he has ever had was playing the sadomasochistic Dentist in Little Shop of Horrors.
Nick is also active as a concert performer, having appeared as the Tenor soloist in Messa di Gloria (Puccini), Requiem and Mass in C (Mozart), Carmina Burana (Orff) and Acis and Galatea ( Handel). On the lighter side, Nick has also appeared in concert performances of works by Gershwin & Porter, Rogers & Hammerstein and John Rutter.
Chris Whitebread – Baritone
Chris started singing relatively late, and first cut his teeth in a choral group based at the YMCA in Tottenham Court Road, London. A concert there comprising songs from musical theatre whet his appetite for that world. His early career (as a tea taster) was relatively mobile, so he continued singing sporadically in various choirs/groups depending on where he was based in UK or overseas. His first and arguably most surreal experience of musical theatre was taking part in a performance of “Me & My Girl” whilst working in Blantyre in Malawi in 1994!
Since moving to the Redhill/Reigate area fifteen years ago and receiving professional training, Chris has sung in a variety of choral and ensemble groups and has also performed in local theatres in Surrey and Sussex with such groups as East Surrey Operatic, The Opera Club and Haywards Heath Operatic.
His grandest role so far has been to play God (“Father”) in Children of Eden ; his most fun role so far: a candelabra (Lumiere) in Beauty & The Beast. Other lead roles include Bob Cratchit in Scrooge, Farleigh in Scarlet Pimpernel, Oscar in Sweet Charity, Sir Evelyn Oakleigh in Anything Goes, Charley in Merrily We Roll Along, Herman in Most Happy Fella and his favourite role so far: the Russian in Chess.
Chris is a relatively new member of Serendipity, having joined in 2009.
